10 Things you didn’t know ……..

Well maybe not ten things but I thought I would add in a little bit about me since I am making up some lost time tonight.

Ok, so …. me …….

I am a regular 38 year old guy who happens to be gay. Being gay these days is a pretty run of the mill thing – we’re everywhere now, nothing special about us at all any more! :-)

I have a wonderful partner who you will see referred to here as BJ – or my Special Someone – and we marked our 4th anniversary a couple of weeks back. We have a slightly unconventional relationship in that we are still living in separate places for now, BJ lives has his own place and I share a place with my older sister - which is an entry in its own right!

BJ has two incredibly well adjusted teenage girls which makes me a Step Monster into the deal and while being that involved with kids (they’re hardly kids anymore at 15 & 17) was hardly a place I expected to be in a few years ago, I wouldn’t change it for anything now. They’re both very different in personality and a hell of a lot of fun.

Workwise – I work for the Government now but I’ve previously worked in Performing Arts (backstage, not on stage – Wardrobe) and before that, in a gay sauna. Obviously very different and both light years away from what I do now. If I had the chance to choose the job I would do for the rest of my life I would be back at the theatre in a second – although now it would need to be on regular 9 – 5 hours!!!

Through that job I had the chance to work on some fantastic productions – Les Miserbles, Mamma Mia, Sound of Music etc and work with some amazing people – some total shit heads too but good with the bad. That was in a different life though and the hours worked for me then. Older and (hopefully) wiser now, the stability or lack of it is not something I could commit to again and the hours required of you in that industry don’t fit in with my life anymore.

As tends to be the case with a lot of people who work in performing arts I also ran a drag show … for many, MANY years. I never did drag myself in all that time – as strange as it may sound, it never interested me. I did perform as a male dancer in most of the shows we did but in usually it was only because I could never get enough money out of the venues to pay me for JUST putting the show together.

I ‘retired’ from all that about 2 years ago now although I am toying with the idea of putting together a one-off show late next year – the interest is there but I’m not sure just yet if the motivation matches it …. We’ll see.

I’ll add a bit more about the show another time if anyone finds it interesting - or anything else for that matter.

Anyway ….. That’s just a little bit about me – none of it defines me but all of it has played a part in making me who I am.

Hmmmmm ! That almost sounds philosophical so on that note it’s time to sign off.

I will try not to leave it nearly a month before the next entry !!!!!

Have a good one :-)

thanks for the introduction. I'd be interested in hearing about your theatre days and your future show plans.
(I'm a big fan of stage makeup)

I thought I'd come to the wrong address. My how your blog has changed, *grin* but I'm glad to see the new photos.

There is always something nicer with photos when you get to see people in them. Means you get to see things in scale and you almost, catch the almost, get to feel like a tourist yourself.

Thanks Elizabeth :-)

Out of all of the pics from Egypt there are maybe a dozen that have us in them .... I try to make sure that doesn't happen any more - may as well just save the pics off the internet otherwise !!
